| CURRENT RESEARCH ACTIVITY | ||
My current research work focuses on the the management of shared data centers.
I'm a member of the High Performance Computing Group at the Computer Architecture Department (DAC) in the UPC.
I'm also an associate researcher at the
Autonomic Systems and eBusiness Platforms
çresearch line in the Barcelona Supercomputer Center (BSC).
The line's goal is to understand and to create the core of future large-scale Autonomic Middleware.
Research focus Nowadays, many companies and organizations consolidate their IT infrastructure in a process that pursues objectives such as reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) associated to the IT infrastructure and reducing its management complexity. This consolidation process often results in the creation of medium and large data centers that require of advanced management techniques to deliver maximum performance. In this scenario, virtualization techniques provide the necessary control knobs to succesfully manage such a large facility. In this area we are addressing challenges related to efficient service management in next-generation data centers. In this scope, we are conducting research on innovative ways to take advantage of the characteristics of next-generation data centers (virtualization technology and next-generation processors) to efficiently run consolidated heterogeneous workloads. In particular, our current focus of attention is put on: 1) management of clusters of virtual machines that run non-scientific distributed applications with service guarantees; 2) exploitation of asymmetric multi-core processors capabilities for commercial applications; and 3) application characterization in virtualized execution platforms with performance prediction objectives. I'm also interested in the use of virtualization technologies in Supercomputing facilities More information can be found at www.bsc.es/autonomic.
