Generally, I am interested in distributed systems, collaborative systems, scalable Internet services, collaborative learning and networking. I have a number of research projects brewing, including:

• CRAC: Compartición de Recursos para Aprendizaje Cooperativo (also known as GPPMCLE: Grid and Peer-to-Peer Middleware for Cooperative Learning Environments). MCYT National project (UPC, UOC, UVA) (2002-2005).
• Cosaco: Components for Cooperative Learning. CICYT National project (UVA, UPC) (2001-2003).

Other projects that I've been involved with in the past include:

A partir del treball de recerca que he realitzat pel doctorat ha sorgit LaCOLLA, una infraestructura autònoma, descentralitzada i autoorganitzada per a facilitar la construcció d'aplicacions que necessitin col·laborar o compartir informació.

• PXC - Computer Network Projects: a project-oriented distributed systems and networks course.

• DSD - The Design of Distributed Systems: Understand the problems, models and systems pretending to solve the problems presented by distribution, and know about recent research topics in this area.
• Decentralized Distributed Systems: Understand the problems, models and systems pretending to solve the problems presented by decentralization in distributed systems, and know about recent research topics in this area.

• LO - Computers Laboratory: an introductory undergraduate course on programming (C language).
• LSOFT - Software Laboratory: an introductory undergraduate course on programming (C language and assembler)

Joan Manuel Marquès is lecturer at Computer Sciences Studies at (Open University of Catalonia - Universitat Oberta de Catalunya). He joined the Computer Architecture Department of UPC as part-time lecturer in 1995, after receiving his graduate degree on Computer Sciences in 1991 from UPC and after working as system manager at UPC.
He received his Ph.D. from UPC under Professor Leandro Navarro in 2003.
Joan Manuel's research interests include the design of scalable and cooperative Internet services and applications.
He is member of the ACM (Association for Computing Machinery)
