Biography

Raul received hist Ph.D (Cum Laude, 2016) in Electrical Engineering at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. He also received two M.Sc (both in 2011) in Electrical Engineering and in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. His research interests lie in the fields of the Internet of Things, energy harvesting, wireless RF power transmission and nanonetworks. He is actively involved in both basic research (funded by US and EU projects), as well as in applied research (industry funded). He is now a Researcher in Cybersecure IoT in IK4-Ikerlan.


He was also a Post-doc Researcher in the Nanonetworking Center in Catalunya (N3Cat), within the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), where he currently holds a guest researcher position. He has held a visiting scholar position at Notheastern University (2015) to conduct research in the field of wireless RF power transmission and at Georgia Institute of Technology (2011) to conduct research in the field of graphene-enabled nanonetworks. He is actively involved in EU and US projects.


He pursued his Ph.D. studies under the supervision of Dr. Eduard Alarcón and Dr. Albert Cabellos-Aparicio. His thesis was focused on enabling the Internet of Things through energy harvesting and wireless RF power transfer. In this work, he provides a systems vision to address communication-centric problems. He graduated Cum Laude. His master thesis in Electrical Engineering was focused on high-efficiency circuits for energy harvesting applications. In addition, he carried out his master thesis in ECE in the Broadband Wireless Networking Lab, within the Georgia Institute of Technology (GaTech), under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ian F. Akyildiz.

Research Interests

  • Energy Harvesting: a key enabling technology for the deployment of perpetual wireless sensor networkds. Fundamentals of energy-harvesting-enabled wireless sensor networks.
     
  • Wirless RF Power Transmission: wireless far-field RF power transmission permits the deployment of wireless sensor networks in energy-scarce environments.
     
  • GWC: Graphene-enabled Wireless Communications: GWC advocate for the use of graphene-based plasmonic antennas in order to communicate in the ultra-short range in order to obtain a high data rate.
     
  • Molecular Communications: Molecular communication systems use the presence or absence of a selected type of molecule to digitally encode messages.
