    Current Projects

    Human Brain Project

The goal of the Human Brain Project is to build a completely new information computing technology infrastructure for neuroscience and for brain-related research in medicine and computing, catalysing a global collaborative effort to understand the human brain and its diseases and ultimately to emulate its computational capabilities. [more]

    DEEP-EST

The DEEP-EST (DEEP - Extreme Scale Technologies) project will create a first incarnation of the Modular Supercomputer Architecture (MSA) and demonstrate its benefits. This is ideal for supercomputer centres running heterogeneous application mixes (higher throughput and energy efficiency). It also offers valuable flexibility to the compute providers, allowing the set of modules and their respective size to be tailored to actual usage. [more]

    HPC Europa 3

HPC-Europa3 aims at maintaining the persistency of a high-quality service of transnational access to the most advanced HPC infrastructures available in Europe for the European research science community. European researchers could rely on the existence of such transnational access activity for almost two decades, and the main aim of this new innovative 3rd edition of HPC-Europa series is to fill the gap left in the four years since the end of the last initiative has ended. [more]

    Past Projects

    ASCETiC

Adapting Service lifeCycle towards EfficienT Clouds (ASCETiC) is focused on providing novel methods and tools to support software developers aiming to optimise energy efficiency and minimise the carbon footprint resulting from designing, developing, deploying, and running software in Clouds. At the same time, quality of service, experience and perception will still be taken into account, so energy efficiency will complement them and boost cloud efficiency at several dimensions. [more]

    AMIGA4GAS

SKA pathfinders will reach the Terabyte-a-day scale, remarkably increasing the leap in the volume and complexity of present astronomical archives. These volumes preclude standard storage and analysis approaches, and need analysis and data mining tasks to live within data repositories, transforming data providers also into services providers, and hence supplying all the individual components of internet-based workflows. This transformation needs the joint contribution of different computing paradigms (HPC clusters, grid computing, or cloud computing), and to investigate how standard communication procedures could integrate the existing heterogeneous network of resources into federated distributed infrastructures for computing and storage, capable of addressing user needs and technical issues. [more]

    OPTIMIS

It is a cloud project that aims at optimizing cloud services, using techniques that take advantage of an OPTIMIS architectural framework and a development toolkit that takes trust, risk, eco-efficiency, cost and legal issues into account. [more]

    NUBA

Nuba is a spanish R&D&i project whose main aim is the development of a federated IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) cloud platform to facilitate the easy and automatic deployment of Internet business services, allowing dynamic scaling based on performance and business goals criteria. [more]

    BREIN

BREIN takes the e-business concept developed in recent Grid research projects, namely the concept of so-called "dynamic virtual organisations" towards a more business-centric model, by enhancing the system with methods from artificial intelligence, intelligent systems, semantic web etc. Thus, the BREIN project will enable business participants to easily and effectively use Grid technologies for their respective business needs. [more]

    BEinGRID

The main objective of the "Business Experiments in Grid" (BEinGRID) project is is to foster the adoption of the so-called Next Generation Grid technologies by the realization of several business experiments and the creation of a toolset repository of Grid middleware upper layers. [more]

Red Temática para la Coordinación de Actividades Middleware en Grid

This is a national initiative to coordinate the different activities regarding Grid technologies which are taken at different research institutions and universities in Spain. [more]

    CoreGRID

We were involved in the CoreGRID Network of Excelence, more precisely in the WP7 (Problem Solving Environments, Tools and Grid Systems). There are a lot of different tools for the Grid, but this project tries to analise some of them and see if it's possible that their main features converge into a bigger entity. [more]

    GRID superscalar

The Grid is a promising technology, but still very hard to use for general scientists. GRID superscalar tries to ease the step of porting an application to the Grid, and also includes advanced techniques inherited from the microprocessor design in order to increase the performance of the execution by exploiting the functional parallelism inside the application, using renaming techniques and others.
